5 Ways to Plug Back into Nature

We are living in the digital age. It is no longer SciFi.

We are bombarded, constantly with strange energy waves and WiFi signals from our electronic devices. We get sucked-in, addicted to artificial worlds through our social media.  Don't get me wrong, I like all those things, but when do we say it's enough?

Prana = Life Force. To me, nature is prana. How did we allow ourselves to get so detached? Nature offers so many benefits to our health and well being, but it seems there are too many forces in our modern age keeping us apart.  Balance is essential to living a healthy lifestyle, so we must take the time to reconnect.

Here are 5 tips on how to unplug from your electronics, and plug back into nature:

1.  Do not check your phone first thing in the morning.

I've done it too, it's become automatic! You wake up, and the first thing you want to do is grab for your phone.  Ugh!

Break the habit. It can be hard at first, but trust me, you will spend plenty of time on that thing throughout the day. Try to wake up and just be in the moment.  The first thing you do in the morning can set the tone for your day.  You can try starting your morning with a short meditation, instead.  Focus on the kind of energy you will bring to your day. Maybe you could focus on accomplishing great things, you could make the world a better place! It doesn't have to be long, take 5 minutes to set your intentions before society tries to convince you otherwise.  Trust me, it makes a huge difference.

2.  Carry an essential oil (or two) with you on the go.

We all have busy lives.  Always too much to do, and not enough time in the day! When you start feeling overwhelmed and stressed out from the grind, try rubbing a couple drops of your favorite essential oil on your wrists, and inhale.  Breathe it in - exhale it out.  Essential oils are made from special herbs and flowers, so carrying essential oils is literally capturing, condensing, and carrying a powerful piece of nature with you, wherever you are.  Some of my favorites are lavender,  sandalwood, and jasmine.  Those three are great for de-stressing throughout the day.

3. Take a hike, walk, or do yoga outdoors.

Instead of going to a gym, try exercising outside.  Other than practicing yoga, one of my favorite activities is hiking. I love to hike.  It's an awesome way to get my cardio going while building strength, and I get a nice dose of nature.  If you're not into hiking, try roller skating, bicycling, or yoga! There are tons of outdoor activities to choose from, find yours.

4. Add more plants in your home.

WiFi signals are all around us at home: phones, computers, televisions, headphones, refrigerators, toasters, your pet gold fish... Everything is WiFi now! These electromagnetic signals affect us in more ways than we may realize.  House plants can act as a natural filtration system to these energy waves. I highly recommend you keep your bedroom clear of electronics if you can. Decorate it with plants instead. The plants fill your room with oxygen and can act as a natural buffer for you. Not to mention, your mind will rest easier knowing psychologically that there are no electronic stimulants, which we normally associate with work or entertainment.

Some house plants I like are: Peace Lilies, Dracaenas, and Viper Hemp.  Himalayan salt lamps are amazing as well!

5.  Take your phone out of your bedroom before bedtime.

Our phones are always dinging, buzzing nonstop from endorphin-inducing, habit-forming triggers.  Although phones seem to be essential tools in our digital age, give yourself a break from them, especially before you lay your head down on that cozy pillow of yours.  Not only will you be able to relax easier and get a better night's rest, but you'll also be avoiding the harmful radiation being emitted from your smart phone.

Self care always comes first, and avoiding radiation is smarter than your phone ;)

So there you have it, 5 tips to help you unplug from your digital world and plug back into the natural world.  Try these tips and let me know how they work for you!
